Stop Selling and Start Blogging

I bet salesmen and business owners will think I’m off my rocker on this one!
Stay with me and I’m sure you’ll see the gold in this blog post. Here’s an age old fact us copywriters learn early on. PEOPLE DON’T LIKE TO BE SOLD. It’s a belief you must respect.

When I go into a store to look around it drives me nuts when salesmen approach. Why? I know they are trying to sell me something. I’m not given a choice to see things for myself or ask questions. Here’s another tidbit to store in your sales hat. Most salesmen are not good at selling. They’re too focused on reaching their sales goals and not solving customer problems. As a result people avoid salesmen like the plague.

Overcome the Anti-Selling Attitude

How do you overcome this anti-selling attitude from qualified buyers and customers? Stop selling and start blogging. A blog allows qualified buyers and customers to learn about you without being sold. People prefer to be sold to indirectly. This may sound nuts, but hear me out. Today’s consumers are not stupid. They’re well aware of what we’re up to. This includes blogging. Ultimately they know we’re trying to sell them something. People don’t want to be attacked with sales pitches and advertising.

They like blogs, because they know two things will happen. First they’re getting free information. And who doesn’t love something for free? Second, they’re getting information that’s useful. What’s the bottom line? They get to control the relationship. People despise selling, because they believe the sales person has control. People don’t like to be sold to, because they don’t like to be controlled. Your blog gives them all the control.

They decide if they want to read your blog. They decide if your information is useful. They decide if you’re an authority they can trust. And they decide if they will buy from you. This tickles them, because you no longer have control over them. These are the types of people you want for customers. The best customers are those who don’t have to be talked into buying from you. Your blog establish everything they need to know about you.

Blogging Leads to Profits

Here’s how blogging leads to profits. Let’s say you’re a landscaping company with a weekly blog. You specialize in landscaping properties for real estate investors. Each week you provide a blog on landscaping tips. These tips may include what catches the eyes of buyers in the front yard and so on. At the end of each blog you provide a link sending them to a specific landing page. This landing page sells one product that solves a problem for them. Your click through rate will most likely increase.

The reason is simple. Your blog provided them with useful information they can implement now. If your free information works they’ll buy your paid information. They know your product will deliver, because you’ve already delivered before. Don’t ignore the power of your blogs. This simple tool is a powerful way to increase your profits.

One popular blogging tool is www.blogger.com. You can set up a separate blog for qualified buyers and customers. You can put pictures, videos and other web media in your blog. Most website templates come with a blogging option built in. You can do away with selling and start giving the control to qualified buyers and customers.

The Power of an RSS Feed

While working with our web designer the other day I saw something interesting on our website. They were two odd looking icons in the upper right hand corner. I asked him what they were. “That’s our RSS feed.” I’d heard of an RSS feed, but never took the time to look into it further. What I learned will allow you to fill your in-house list with more qualified buyers. An RSS feed gives your website and business a few powerful benefits.

Benefit #1: Become an Authority

An RSS feed allows readers to freely subscribe to your online blog. Your daily or weekly blog posts are automatically sent to their inbox once they sign up. Readers sign up using their e-mail address. You can use your RSS feed to become an authority on any given topic. Your blog should be focused on information designed to help qualified buyers solve their problems. If you keep supplying helpful and useful information your qualified buyers will keep coming back.

When it comes time to make a purchase they’ll choose you first. Why? You’ve established yourself as a trusted authority on solving their problems. On the web it’s not enough to have a website. And who cares if you have a slick video presentation. At the end of the day qualified buyers are looking for products and services that solve their problems.

Benefit #2: Gain Qualified Buyers

Having readers of your RSS feed is one thing. Gaining qualified buyers is another. You need two goals for your RSS feed. First you want to establish your business and website as an authority on solving their problems. Second you want to gain qualified buyers who need your solutions. Visitors who browse your site won’t increase your profits. Only qualified buyers will fill that role.

What’s a qualified buyer? A qualified buyer is someone who needs your solution, needs it now, can afford it and is ready to use it now. That’s a lot different than someone who is looking around. By giving them relevant content that will solve their problems more qualified buyers will show up on your website and buy from you.

Benefit #3: Control of Information

The biggest benefit of your RSS feed is that it allows qualified buyers to opt-in to your blog. The qualified buyer doesn’t have to worry about spam. They’ve decided to receive information from you on a regular basis. By opting in the qualified buyer controls the information they receive from you. This is good, because they’re very close to becoming a regular paying customer. As time goes on they can decide to receive more detailed information on your other products and services.

Here’s a true fact. We don’t buy from people we don’t like. I buy my vanilla steamers at Starbucks, because I like them. The guy who’ll put in our deck next summer got the job, because my wife and I like him. If qualified buyers are getting useful information from you they will like you. And ultimately they will buy from you. Don’t pass up the opportunity to use your blog as an RSS feed. You’ll gain more website authority, qualified buyers and profits!

Dear Business Owner,

Web design profit trigger #2 talked about the power of video on your website. Today I’m going tell you about Web Design Profit Trigger #6. This one will soon trump any type of video on your website. In a moment I’ll tell you why. Keep something in mind. Right now you can load any type of video on your site and it’ll increase your search engine rankings.
But so what? Like website copywriting it takes more than just putting something on your site. Ultimately it has to be something that solves problems for qualified buyers and customers.

Web design profit trigger #6 does exactly this. It’s so powerful it will end up being the most important part of your website. In fact it’ll drive more profits than anything else in the near future for websites. You must implement web design profit trigger #6 with care. Doing a sloppy job will lose your company money. Now let’s find out more about web design profit trigger #6.

Web Design Profit Trigger #6

Customer video testimonials will be the new wave of website videos. Right now you’re seeing videos of owners touting their products and services. Even mini-commercials are on the rise. These will fade over time and here’s why. Nothing sells your product or service faster than word-of-mouth advertising. Here’s the purpose of any great advertising. The goal is to “get the word out” about a product or service.

Once people are talking about your product or service to others, you’re on your way. In online language we call it “going viral”. Imagine having solid customer video testimonials telling how you helped solve their problems. Qualified buyers will flock to your site ready to order.

Why does this work? Qualified buyers want to see real proof your product or service works. Great customer video testimonials mention a specific problem and how your product or service solved it. You see this all the time with infomercials. Thrilled customers talk about how miserable their lives were until they bought a certain product or service. When this happens the orders roll in.

Put this same concept to work on your website. Don’t just tell folks what you can do for them. Show them through customer video testimonials. Make sure the picture is good and you can clearly hear your customers sharing. If possible have them holding or using your product or service.
Seeing all of this in live action gives qualified buyers something to buy now. If they like your videos they’ll tell everyone through any means necessary. At iLocal, Inc. we believe in the power of customer video testimonials. They’re becoming more popular with our own customers. I suggest you start getting your customer video testimonial plan together. You’ll increase your online presence and trigger more profits!

The next article will wrap up our web design profit triggers. And number seven will be fun. It’s simple, but few businesses use it. If you’re in the service business Web Design Profit Trigger #7 is a must!

Dear Business Owner,

Today I’d like to share a web design profit trigger you may have overlooked. I haven’t seen these on many websites. I’m sure there are a lot more out there. Here’s what I love about this web design profit trigger. It instantly connects you with qualified buyers and customers. In today’s fast paced world people hate waiting. There’s nothing more irritating than being put on hold. And being given a number selection is getting tiring.

A client of ours in the Seattle area came up with a way to instantly communicate with their qualified buyers. I like to call it Web Design Profit Trigger #5. Imagine hopping on a website and someone pops up ready to help you with your problem. That’s exactly what our client did. And now let me share web design profit trigger #5.

Web Design Profit Trigger #5

A “Start Chat” window pops into view when you visit their site. You see the picture of a friendly assistant. They list their name and ask the most important question you can ask a qualified buyer or customer. “How can I assist you?” You click on the “start chat” icon and begin typing in your question or problem.

Your qualified buyer doesn’t have to waste time calling or searching through your website. They can instantly share their problem and get a resolution. This shows you respect their time and immediate issue. Once the qualified buyer is done they can go through the rest of your site.

This is courteous, because you’re giving them an option. They can get instant gratification and browse your site for more info later. You’ve given them two things at once. This web profit trigger is called the “Live Chat”. It’s powered by Total Live Chat. I’m pretty sure this will become more popular as time goes on.

As a business owner web design profit trigger #5 is a must in today’s market. With a Live Chat option you can instantly communicate with and help your customers. By helping qualified buyers and customers now you won’t lose them to competitors later.
They’ll recognize you as a fast and knowledgeable solution source.

Why does a Live Chat option trigger profits for your company? It gives your customers and qualified buyers, instant gratification. We all pay top dollar for it. They get what they want now. This is part of the reason our client has over 100,000 customers. You must instantly provide qualified buyers and customers with what they need and want.
If you don’t your competitors will.
Next time we’ll take a look at Web Design Profit Trigger #6. I’ve mentioned it under a bigger umbrella earlier in this series. Web design profit trigger #6 will end up being the fastest way to trigger profits for your website.
